It takes a community to reintegrate a person with a criminal
record because second chances matter for reducing the risk of reoffending.
Re-entry and re-integration is everybody’s business.

I am not my crime began as a podcast series aiming to challenge the stigmatising attitudes that people hold towards those who have a criminal record. This podcast series was inspired by some of the findings from my own PhD research which examined the willingness of employers to hire a job applicant with a criminal record. The podcast project attracted a raft of positive comments, which amplified the community’s appetite to gauge a deeper understanding of how and why people end up in the criminal justice system and learn about how they also stay out. In response, I have designed this website to share more stories from those who have experienced the criminal justice system. I’ve also developed some additional resources for those with lived experience, employers and the broader community.
